Mimicry of quantum spin liquid in a trigonal compound, CuGaInO4

This work, as conducted by
proposal M2019,
aims to identify the nature of the magnetic ground state of a frustrated magnet
with the trigonal structure, CuGaInO4. Due to the site disorders
between Cu2+ and Ga3+ ions in a
quasi-two dimensional honeycomb layer, bond disorders on the background of the
quantum spin liquid state is revealed. Microscopic investigations through the
surface muons are expected to provide an information of the magnetic ground
state and the evolution of magnetic correlations through the successive
crossovers.
