Which facilities used

Table 1: Which facilities are used.
# Which facilities do you   Number Yes Percent Yes
2 experiment at? ISIS 37 57.8
3 experiment at? KEK 8 12.5
4 experiment at? PSI 37 57.8
5 experiment at? TRIUMF 36 56.3
6 use facility programs with data from? ISIS 18 28.1
7 use facility programs with data from? KEK 4 6.3
8 use facility programs with data from? PSI 28 43.8
9 use facility programs with data from? TRIUMF 32 50.0
10 use private programs with data from? ISIS 27 42.2
11 use private programs with data from? KEK 7 10.9
12 use private programs with data from? PSI 31 48.4
13 use private programs with data from? TRIUMF 29 45.3

Quite a few respondents (62.5 percent) used more than one facility (Tables 1 and 2), although no one has the energy to use all four. The mean number of facilities used per respondent is 1.8 $\pm $ 0.8. Many people use both facility and private programs to analyse data, with slightly higher usage of private programs. This is probably an overestimate of the number of facilities used per person in the muSR community overall. I would expect that those who only use one facility would be less likely to fill out this questionnaire, because they would be less likely to have difficulties with differing data formats, etc.

Table 2: Number of respondents using more than one facility. Summarized from Questions 2-5. The mean number is 1.8 $\pm $ 0.8.
# of facilities # of respondents Percent of respondents
0 0 0.0
1 24 37.5
2 26 40.6
3 14 21.9
4 0 0.0

Table 3: Number of respondents who used facility programs with data from how many facilities. Summarized from Questions 6-9. The mean number is 1.3 $\pm $ 0.8.
# of facilities # of respondents Percent of respondents
0 10 15.6
1 31 48.4
2 18 28.1
3 5 7.8
4 0 0.0

Questions 6-9 (Table 3) and 10-13 (Table 4) aimed to see if people preferred to use facility programs over private programs. As written, these questions failed to indicate the degree to which people use a program originally developed at one facility with data from other places. I neglected to ask which facility programs people use. However. some people answered questions 6-9 as if it were ``from which facilities did you use facility programs?" Quite a few people are using programs from one facility to analyse data taken at another facility. The only indirect indication of this is that mean number of facilities used is higher than the mean number of facility programs used.

Table 4: Number of respondents who used private programs with data from how many facilities. Summarized from Questions 10-13. Mean number is 1.5 $\pm $ 1.0.
# of facilities # of respondents Percent of respondents
0 11 17.2
1 25 39.1
2 16 25.0
3 11 17.2
4 1 1.6

I probably should have asked which facility programs are used, but I didn't know enough of the names.
