I begin by listing the reasons why µ- SR is so rare compared with µ+SR.

The short lifetime is mitigated somewhat by the fact that one can accomodate a proportionately higher muon stop rate (if it is available) without "pileup" problems, but only if the sample contains no lighter nuclei.
